  • Familysearch.org : This is the LDS Church family history website. Search the 1880 U.S. census, 1881 Canadian census, 1881 British Isles Census, IGI, Ancestral file, SSDI, Pedigree file and the library’s catalogue.
  • Ancestry.com ($) : Search all U.S. census’s, family trees, newspapers, SSDI,etc.
  • Godfrey.Org ($) : This database of state and country resources includes census images and other useful databases. For only $35.00 a year!.
  • USgenweb.com : Look at available databases and records online on the state or county level.
  • Rootsweb.com : Databases, message boards, websites.
  • Cyndislist.com : Index of over 248,000 genealogy links.
  • Vitalrec.com : Lists each state and how to obtain vital records on the county and state level.

Genealogy Websites

Military

  • www.itd.nps.gov/cwss/ : National Park Systems Civil War Soldiers and Sailors database. Look up a civil war ancestor and you can also look up information on their regiment.
  • www.archives.gov : National Archives website with access to military records. Order civil war records online or look at WWII casualty lists.
  • American Battle Monuments Commission: They take care of veteran’s cemeteries overseas and the website has a listing of soldiers buried in those cemeteries, http://www.abmc.gov/home.php.
  • Department of Veteran Affairs Nationwide Gravesite Locator: http://gravelocator.cem.va.gov/j2ee/servlet/NGL_v1.

  • Deathindexes.com : Links to death, cemetery and obituary records online
  • Genealogy.az.gov : Arizona birth (1887-1928) and death (1878-1953) certificates.
  • http://abish.byui.edu/specialCollections/index.cfm : BYU Idaho’s Special Collections includes the Western States Marriage Record Index, the Idaho State Death Index 1911-1951, Utah Burials database, Japanese Immigrants to the United States 1887-1924 and eastern Idaho Death Records.
  • www.newenglandancestors.org ($) : Website of the New England Historical and Genealogical Society. Use their search feature to look up your New England ancestor in their databases.
  • www.censusfinder.com : Lists by state and county census websites, both paid and free. Also lists census substitutes.
  • www.genealogytoday.com ($) : Genealogy Today is transcribing unusual record sources like alumni directories, yearbooks, Masonic records, etc. Can do a free surname search.

  • www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk ($) : Scotland’s People has vital records, census records and wills for Scotland. You can the wills for free but otherwise you must purchase credits that allow you to see search results and scans of the actual document.
  • www.genuki.org.uk : Genealogy site for the England, Ireland, Scotland, the Channel Islands and the Isle of Man.
  • worldgenweb.org : WorldGen Web Project, like the usgenweb but for the rest of the world.
  • www.collectionscanada.ca/genealogy/index-e.html : The Canadian Genealogy Center is a part of Library and Archives Canada. Online databases for searching Canadian Ancestors.
